Modern life has made one particular essential winter accessory a frustrating addition to our seasonal wardrobe. Evidence of humans wearing protective garments over their hands during bitter winters has been found on cave paintings, which suggest that early hom*o sapiens wore simple mittens during the Ice Age. Wearing gloves as a demonstration of status or wealth, however, dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. The oldest existing gloves were found in Tutankhamun’s Egyptian tomb in 1922.
