FAQs - Simply Surimi (2024)

How long can product be outside of the refrigerator and still be safe to eat?
Product should not be kept out of refrigeration more than 2 hours.

How long will a refrigerated product keep in my refrigerator?
An unopened and intact (still tightly vacuum-packed) package kept below 38°F can be kept until the ‘use by’ or ‘sell by’ date on the package. You should use the package or freeze it before the date on the package. If you freeze it before the use by date, you can store it frozen for up to nine months. You should use the thawed product within three days after thawing.

How long will a frozen product keep in my freezer?
This product is good to eat for up to two years if stored in a commercial freezer (below 0°F). Most household freezers are not that cold (about 10°F), so we recommend a one-year frozen shelf life in a home freezer.

There is no ‘use by’ date on my package of product, however, there is a different code stamped (not pre-printed) onto the package. Is the product still good to eat?
The different code you see on the package should be four numbers followed by a time (such as 1459 15:30). This date code is only placed on products that we produce frozen. If you bought this product as a refrigerated product, your store purchased it from us frozen, then thawed it out and sold it as a refrigerated product. The product is good for 100 days after thawing if it is unopened and intact. The store should be putting a ‘use by’ date on the product when they thaw it and put it out for sale. We recommend that you try to find out when the store thawed the product. If they are unaware that they should be putting a use by date on the product, please direct them to this website or have them call (800) 290-CRAB (2722).

How long will thawed product keep in my refrigerator?
If you purchase a product frozen and thaw it out or if you purchase a refrigerated product that does not have a use by date, but does have a date code stamp (four numbers followed by a time, such as 1459 15:30), the product is good for 100 days after thawing if the original package is intact, unopened and the product is kept refrigerated below 38°F.

How long will an opened package keep in my refrigerator?
Once the product is opened we recommend using it within 3 days.

How long can I keep the unopened package in my refrigerator after thawing?
Use it within three days after thawing. We do not recommend that you store product for very long in the refrigerator after the product was stored refrigerated, frozen, then thawed out and refrigerated again. There is just too much uncertainty about how long the product has been stored unfrozen.

How do you recommend thawing frozen product?
You can thaw this product by placing it in your refrigerator 24 hours before you plan on using it. You can also submerge the product in lukewarm water until thawed (between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on size of package). To speed this thawing process, replace the water with fresh lukewarm water as it cools.

I am allergic to shellfish or crab. Can I still eat imitation crab?
No. Even if the imitation crab product does not contain crab meat, there are crab or shellfish components in the natural extracts and flavors which may cause an allergic reaction.

How come the coupons I downloaded from your web site wouldn’t scan at the store?
Your printer must be able to produce at a resolution of 300-dpi in order for the coupons to be legible enough for scanning.

My store will not accept internet coupons. How can I get them to accept yours?
Trans-Ocean’s online coupons are provided by SmartSource. SmartSource printable coupons should be redeemable at any store that accepts regular coupons. News America Marketing has relationships with most retail chains who understand this. Unfortunately, sometimes local store managers make their own policies. If a store manager does not accept our coupons, please present this letter which explains how SmartSource is a leading provider of valid printable coupons.
