NOT for kids under 18 - We had to walk out due to psychologically disturbing content!😱

We were shocked by the disturbingly demented content and graphic psychologically damaging descriptions that were depicted in first 20 minutes of this movie. Nothing like the prior Scream movies! My husband and I usually like horror movies, but I would advise any parents to keep kids under 18 from watching this . ( unless you rent it later and take time to pause and explain the damaging content to them). We took our 14 and 18 yr olds along with some family friends and their 13 year old, and for the first time in my life, we all had to walk out. ( we lost the $70, but it was worth it) It wasn’t the 30 F- bombs in the first 15 minutes, or even the murders themselves, but rather the deranged feeling of elation the killer describes almost immediately after the movie begins. They didn’t seem like a typical sociopathic killer, but rather just a movie obsessed college kid simply playing a game or something —As if the murders were no big deal and were actually funny and enjoyable. Even my 18 yr old son said how sickening it was! As a psychologist, I need people to understand that this type of content is psychologically damaging to children( and probably some adults). The images portrayed reminded me of torture videos they use on prisoners of war. Also, Jenna Ortega’s drunken party behavior and her irrational attack against her friends trying to stop her from being sexually assaulted didn’t really sit well either ( because we were there with younger teens). Just be aware that if you let your kids see this, they may not be the same afterwards.

Too disturbing!

Should be rated 18+ content far too disturbing, especially for kids that have had past trauma it could be triggers for them, and adults too for that matter, but as an adult, their choice.

Okay so let's start by saying that I was absolutely thrilled to see this and having went opening night I can say that I personally loved it the action the horror the comedy everything was perfectly placed that being said though there were references of family can mean anyone sticking together and sometimes ya gotta let go of the past in order to have a future there's also a ton of graphic gory violence profanity and sexual related humor the most disturbing and most difficult part to me as a educator wasss alot of people brought their tiny children and the children seemed to be loving it DONT BE THAT PARENT

for kids no younger than 12

(this review includes light spoilers - nothing too bad tho) i’d say scream is 12+ or 13+ depending on your kids. any senstive kids shouldnt watch this in my opinion because it is pretty heavy on the gore. it is a great movie, with a fresh take on the scream franchise with new and old characters. it has a few jumpscares but none of them are really too bad. the main issue is just the gore and the themes as the story is based on a tradition of killing people to become famous. the main violent scene is at the end which included someone being burnt alive, someone being stabbed in the head, someone who was shot in the head and multiple people being stabbed in the back. overall, violence/gore, 4/5, sex and nudity, 2/5, language, 3.5/5. it’s a thrilling movie with a classic plot and it’s definitely worth watching. (i’d recommend older tweens and teenages to watch this movie and no one younger than 12 probably.)

Great movie

It’s a great movie, my children love it. There are murder scenes but children above the age of 12 should be able to handle it. My 13 year old son loves the movie so much!

The movie itself was great I really loved it and enjoyed it, the only thing I did not like and was not very happy about was paying the extra money to see it in 3D and it wasn't a 3D movie there weren't any 3D scenes in the movie.

Can a 13 year old watch the Scream series? ›

The show had a TV-14 rating on the MTV channel, but now has a TV-MA rating on Netflix because of how gory it is. If you look away on some of the gory parts, I'd say 14+, but if you look away on a lot of the gory parts, I'd say 13+. This title has: Too much violence.

It's the second film in the new rebooted universe so bigger is seen as better with a number of brash and bloody setpieces, most of which prove suspenseful enough if never actually scary (has a Scream film needed to be truly scary since the first?).

It's pretty spot on with earlier installments. Notable differences from other franchise entries are less sex and sexual references and elevated gore and violence. "Scream VI" is officially rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, and brief drug use.

Is Scream Queens rated R? ›

Very gory for a PG-13 show. A masked character has a chainsaw brought down onto their neck, which cuts through it and decapitates them. In an episode, a character's insides can be seen after a bloody kill off camera. Contains moments of moderate to strong violence and gore throughout the series.

Teens are quite likely to want to see this one, but parents should take the R rating seriously.

Is Scream 6 the goriest? ›

I remember walking out of the theater after seeing Scream (2022) and thinking that was the most brutal Ghostface I'd ever seen. Sorry, 2022 version of me, but that was nothing. Scream VI delivers the goriest, scariest, most relentless Ghostface we have ever seen. I felt every single kill on a visceral level.

Is Scream 3 kid friendly? ›

The movie is still plenty R-rated, but very, very much toned down from, say, the original. Instead it's more character and story-driven, which may not be the first two things you think of when you think of the "Scream" franchise, but it is.
