  2. I have never been a fan of meatloaf but throughout my life I have continued to try and find one that was really good and not just tolerable. I finally came across this one a few years ago and it is the best. It is the only recipe I use now and make this a couple times a month

  3. I've made this a few times it's so moist and delicious one of the best comfort foods. It's also one of the few meals that I get no leftovers out of, I suppose if I had my druthers I'd double it. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love this recipe, everyone I know requests it when they're at our place for dinner. I usually keep it as is, but sometimes because I'm a lover of the topping I"ll double the topping recipe and put half in the center of the meatloaf, mmm!!!!

  5. I make this all the time! Thanks for posting! The only things I do differently is to cook the onion and pepper for two minutes covered with plastic wrap, and I add a couple of healthy splashes of worcestershire.

  2. Dude, trust me. Use Muir Glen organic fire roasted diced tomatoes with chipotle peppers instead of plain diced tomatoes. Holy moly, yum!

FAQs

What is the basic meatloaf formula? ›

The Basic Meatloaf Formula

All recipes for meatloaf start with the same basic formula: 2 pounds of ground meat and a “panade” made of bread or crackers soaked in milk. Along with a few eggs, this panade helps to hold the ground meat together and adds some essential moisture to the mix.

Why milk instead of water in meatloaf? ›

The only way to guarantee tender meat is not to overcook it. And that's a simple matter of using a thermometer when you bake the meatloaf. Milk does, on the other hand, add moisture and fat and is worth including for that fact alone.

What is traditional meatloaf made of? ›

Combine ground beef, onion, milk, bread crumbs and egg in a large bowl; season with salt and pepper. Transfer into prepared loaf pan. Mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard together in a small bowl until well combined; pour over meatloaf and spread it evenly over the top.
