What is the Pie Bunny?
You might’ve heard of pie birds, which came about in the 1930s. Pie funnels had been around much longer, but it was then that an Australian potter patented one in the shape of a black bird. The tiny gadgets are meant to sit in the center of a pie and serve as a steam vent, keeping the filling from overflowing.
Le Creuset has put their own seasonal spin on the classic item by shaping it in the form of a bunny. In addition to preventing your pie from boiling over, the structure has arches on the bottom that redirect moisture and keep the crust from getting soggy. Of course, it consists of Le Creuset’s signature stoneware — which is dishwasher-safe and oven-safe up to 500°F — and vibrant glazed colors.
