When to surf Westport, WA? ›

The best time of year for surfing Westport-The Cove with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is during Winter and most often the month of March.

The beach at Westhaven State Park faces due west and picks up more swell than the other two spots. The ideal wind here is from the east, or offshore in surfers terms. The jetty is located on the North end of Westhaven State Park and to the south there is miles of sandy beach for everyone to Surf.

Damon Point is a great spot for beginners or small wave riders when it is small but during the winter it should only be surfed by the experienced Washington surfer. Ocean Shores is light on localism, like always just be respectful and don't paddle straight out to the peak.

Not necessarily — it depends on where you plan to surf. High tides are great if you're headed towards a reef break. The only exception is if it's near a bluff, in which case the waves rarely break before hitting land. Conversely, medium to low tides are better if you're surfing near a beach break.

The South West from Cape Leewin to Naturaliste is one of the most wave rich coast in Australia, including classics like Margaret River, Gracetown and Yallingup.

Eventually, the crest topples over and the wave “breaks.” Waves break in water that has a depth equal to about 1.3 times the wave height.

The easy to get to surf spots makes it the closest spot for those living in Seattle or north of it. Located inside the Fort Ebey State Park there is also parking lots and bathrooms. The surf is never crowded, and you'll likely find a few other locals out there enjoying good surf with you.

The closest surf zone to Seattle, Westport offers a relatively tame hit of surf-stoked in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest.

Westhaven State Park is located one mile from the Westport Marina District and is the most popular beach in the area. With over 79 acres of the Pacific Ocean coastline, sandy beaches, and coastal forests, it's the perfect place to spend the day.

Winter surfing is generally done in water below 50°F. When it dips into the 30s, that's a new level of commitment. And while salt water freezes around 28.5°F, that's usually only a factor for those residing in the norther realm of New England.

Westport Marina.

Just off the Westport Marina, the ocean opens up for a thrilling offshore fishing experience. From May to November, this is prime territory for Albacore Tuna, Chinook Salmon, and Halibut.

Simply put, the best time of day to surf is in the early morning and late evening. The surf is the best at these times because the winds are calm during the beginning and end of the day.
