As if Millenials have suffered enough from Gen Z giving an age to their style while cherry-picking the less cringe parts of early 00’s fashion, they’re now coming for our socks.

It was only about a year ago that fashion blogs were going crazy over The Great Middle Part vs Side Part Debate, when Gen Z wasn’t just evolving their own round of fashion trends but rather picking apart the trends from the generation directly before them. Skinny jeans were given the boot, and while Millenials banded together against the attempted revival of low-rise flares, Gen Z stepped it up a notch by revitalizing the popularity of ultra flares and styles reminiscent of brands like JNCO jeans by popularizing baggy, shapeless, oversized clothing.

Now that fashion trends have settled into the “it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it” corner, Gen Z fashion influencers have decided that they aren’t done doubling down on anti-Millenial rhetoric as they go for the ankle socks. According to a few influental Zillenial Tiktokers, Millenials can’t fool them by giving way to the centre part or flare jeans, or opting for yoga pants altogether. All you have to do is look at their socks. Tall socks bunched down at the ankles, almost resembling the 80s workout staple of legwarmers have the it-factor these days as athleisure still dominates fashion trends.

While ankle socks were once a great way to minimize bulky clothing while on the run or as a way to get away with mismatched socks on a warm day, they are now the newest way to tell apart the Millenial and Gen Z crowd.
