Ultrasound imaging for ankle injuries.

Diagnostic ultrasound is a fast, effective and affordable way to detect and diagnose tendon, ligament, soft tissue and nerve damage in the ankle.

Non-invasive ankle ultrasound.

Ultrasound can be helpful in diagnosing a range of pathological ankle conditions which have resulted from trauma, overuse or inflammation.

Particularly effective in identifying issues associated with the tendons and tendon sheaths such as tendinosis, tenosynovitis, tears and subluxation, ultrasound can also be used to diagnose other foot and ankle conditions including ligament sprains, joint effusions, ganglion cysts, bursitis and nerve conditions such as tarsal tunnel syndrome or other nerve conditions such as Morton’s neuroma as well as bursitis.

Fast, affordable and radiation-free.

Ankle ultrasound can safely produce detailed images of the tendons, ligaments, nerves and soft tissues surrounding the ankle in real time.

While Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is often considered the gold standard in ankle imaging, ultrasound is generally a faster and more affordable alternative method that can also yield high-quality diagnostic images.

Utilising high frequency sound waves, ankle ultrasound can be safely performed without any risk of exposure to radiation and is an entirely safe medical imaging method.

Rapid diagnosis of sporting ankle injury.

Ligament sprains caused by the rolling or twisting of the ankle are one of the most common types of injury encountered on the sporting field and can be extremely painful.

Ankle injuries can vary in severity from a mild sprain to a partial or complete ligament tear. An ankle ultrasound can quickly identify the type of injury sustained and determine the severity of the injury, allowing your doctor to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.

Doppler ultrasound imaging can also help to distinguish small intrasubstance tendon tears from blood vessels and accurately determine the extent of tendon sheath as well as joint inflammation.

It is used to help diagnose sprains, strains, tears, trapped nerves, arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive, and does not use ionizing radiation.

What can an ultrasound see that an MRI Cannot? ›

Both tools are used to see blood vessels and internal organs. However, only MRIs can see through bone. If you need imaging for a body part underneath lots of bone, then an MRI will typically be used.
