What is the Oreo formula? ›

Etymology. The origin of the name "Oreo" is unknown, but there are many hypotheses, including derivations from the French word or, meaning "gold", or from the Greek word ωραίο (oreo) meaning "nice" or "attractive". Others believe that the cookie was named Oreo simply because the name was short and easy to pronounce.

It is recommended that an individual limits their intake of Oreos to the serving size specified on the package, which is typically three cookies. Each Oreo cookie contains approximately 52 calories and 2.3 grams of fat, including both saturated and unsaturated fats.

Oreo cookies became Kosher, which is also Halal, in 1998. Before then people would just eat the Hydrox brand which was already Kosher. Different brand, just as tasty. And yes, Kosher is Halal, unless alcohol is used in cooking which isn't an issue with Oreos.

The longer answer. As the Oreo FAQ page states, while Oreos are indeed veggie-friendly, they are not strictly vegan as 'Oreo have milk as cross-contact and therefore they are not suitable for vegans'.

The number of calories in a cookie depends on the type of cookie you eat. Oreo cookies, for example, contain about 53 calories per cookie. Chips Ahoy brand chocolate chip cookies contain 160 calories in each three-cookie serving. Fig Newtons provide about 100 calories per serving and 2 grams of fat.

Doritos is not halal is the US and Canada because one of the ingredients listed as enzymes is derived from beef. Muslim countries have halal versions because it's mandatory for companies to sell products with halal ingredients in it whereas the same does not apply in other countries like US and Canada.

Black cocoa.

This type of cocoa powder is critical for proper Oreo flavor and color. I include notes on substituting other types of cocoa in the recipe notes below, but just know that it really won't be the same cookie or have that classic taste without black cocoa.
