01-01: Stuffed

Stuffed Toy products that are certifiedasthma & allergy friendly®are tested to the Toy Certification Standard ASP:01:01

The Certification Standard utilizes an algorithm of proprietary and recognized scientific techniques to assess Stuffed Toys for likely exposure to allergenic and irritant materials both at the time of purchase and thereafter when in use.

Samples that pass certification testing are granted a certificate that the particular Stuffed Toy line meets the requirements for theasthma & allergy friendly®certification standard.

Stuffed Toys must firstly comply with national safety legislation for style and age range in the countries where they are sold. Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) then subjects the Stuffed Toys to further material tests to ensure that the toys do not have properties that are likely to irritate both asthma and allergy symptoms in susceptible people.

In order to maintain the safety and health of the child all styles / designs are subjected to the additional test protocols including tests for textile processing and finishing chemicals suspected or known to have a potential to cause allergic or irritant reactions in susceptible people. Within the testing protocols ASL specifies the maximum content of these chemicals and dyes allowed in the toy.

The limits specified are based on present knowledge and scientific research into the safety of chemicals used in the Stuffed Toy and textile industry. Because research is ongoing these limits will be kept under continuing review.

Allergen accumulating within the Stuffed Toy must be removable by laundering in a washing machine. The rate of house dust mite allergen accumulation in a Stuffed Toy item under defined conditions must be determined. Before and after the recommended repeated laundering procedures, Stuffed Toys must meet or exceed the most stringent applicable international legal restrictions / directive standards for quality and safety.

All certifiedasthma & allergy friendly®Stuffed Toys are associated with a unique certification code.

Please contact us with more information for specific requests about new standard development. Allergy Standards is an international standards body that develops standards for testing a wide range of products to determine their suitability. If our medical and advisory committee agrees that a new standard area would provide a benefit to asthmatics and individuals with associated allergies, we will develop a new standard for testing in that particular area. New standard development is a longer process and Certification for a new standard usually takes around 9 months from start to finish. We recently released a new standard for Whole Home Air Cleaners and Cabin Air Filters.
