Ina Garten will be cooking up a storm in her amazing new NYC apartment (2024)
Ina Garten, popularly known as the Barefoot Contessa, will no doubt be cooking up a storm in the two-bedroom apartment she just purchased in Manhattan's Upper East Side neighborhood.
Garten and her husband Jeffrey paid $4.65 million for the stunning home, located at the corner of Park Avenue and 62nd Street in Manhattan. This pre-war beauty offers exposed views of East Manhattan and downtown, and has exquisite interior details including a spacious 19 X 36 foot living room, wood-burning fireplaces and a magnificent corner library that will easily hold her vast collection of cookbooks.
The apartment is optimally located in the city — just a few blocks from Central Park and the Big Apple's best shopping, including Bloomingdale's. And when she doesn't feel like cooking, Garten can easily walk to top-rated neighborhood restaurants, like Daniel, for a delicious bite.
It's a good thing Garten seriously upgraded her New York digs last year—you know, for when she's not at her East Hampton pad. Indeed, the Gartens bought a $4.65 million two-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment at 563 Park Avenue last summer.
Barefoot Contessa hasn't produced new episodes since 2021, and anyone who still has cable knows that Food Network doesn't show Garten's TV shows as often as we'd like. However, Garten recently announced that she's working on new episodes for the cooking network.
Her fame may be relatively quiet — she doesn't have a line of cookware, there isn't a namesake restaurant — but make no mistake: Ina Garten is a powerhouse celeb chef.
And then through college. And then when he was in the military, he would write to me almost every day," she recalled. "And I kept all those letters." Ina and Jeffrey Garten have been married for over 50 years, having tied the knot in 1968.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ina Garten's net worth in 2024 is estimated at $60 million. When combined with that of her husband Jeffrey, that amount is estimated at a whopping $120 million.
In a new interview for Julia Louis-Dreyfus' podcast, Wiser Than Me, Garten admitted that it "wasn't a struggle at all" to decide against having children. "I had no interest in having children," she told Louis-Dreyfus. "I had a terrible childhood, and it was nothing I wanted to recreate.
The one meal Ina simply couldn't live without is roast chicken. She even cites it as one of the reasons her husband, Jeffrey, proposed marriage in 1968.
Garten then decided to discontinue her studies at Syracuse University and focused on cooking for her husband. However, Jeffrey pushed her to pursue her passions for business and cooking, and she later earned her degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Flay and Garten have been friends and colleagues for decades, so it's no surprise that Flay has such respect for her person and her cooking. And Garten has returned that love in kind. In an interview with the Food Network, Garten waxed impressed about the staggering achievements and stamina of Flay.
Despite warming hearts and stomachs worldwide with her classic, "foolproof" recipes, Ina Garten— better known as the Barefoot Contessa— has never actually owned a restaurant.
She routinely worked 12-hour shifts at the store, making the same cake over and over until she got it right. It was an exhausting schedule, but Garten kept it up for almost 20 years. In 1996, she finally decided it was time to move on and relinquished control of the business to a pair of employees.
Garten has been married to the former Ina Rosenberg since 1968. Ina Garten hosts Food Network's Barefoot Contessa, for which she has won six Emmy Awards. She has also written thirteen best-selling cookbooks, including Cooking for Jeffrey in 2016. Garten and his wife live in East Hampton, New York.
The Belnord in New York City's Upper West Side received an influx of attention after it first appeared in the hit Hulu series "Only Murders in the Building." Now, it's back in the spotlight amid reports Martha Stewart now owns a large condo there with her daughter Alexis.
While Garten sold her shop to two former employees in 1996 and never opened another store or restaurant, she has released some very limited food items in the decades since.
